X-Files: Disney reboot is still alive
Also a discussion with Vince Gilligan, long-time producer of the series and creator of Breaking Bad
The return of X-Files has not been shelved. After months of silence, Ryan Coogler has confirmed that he is still immersed in writing the reboot produced by Disney, a concrete sign that the project continues to develop behind the scenes.
The director admitted that the path is not simple: bringing back to life an iconic series from the 90s entails extremely high expectations. For him, however, it's not just an industrial operation. He recounted having followed the original series with his mother, a personal connection that influences the respect with which he is approaching this new chapter.
A Cult Sci-Fi Series
During the development phase, Coogler also consulted with Vince Gilligan, a long-time producer of the series and later creator of Breaking Bad, gathering useful suggestions to keep the spirit of the original work intact. There are no confirmations yet on the return of the original cast, but Gillian Anderson has not ruled out possible involvement. No statements, however, on David Duchovny.
The reboot is expected to retain the classic structure: self-contained episodes alongside a larger overarching plot. No release date has been announced, and Coogler will first be busy with Black Panther 3. Although the project will take time, the file is not closed.
