The future of The X-Files might still hold something for its original protagonists. In an interview published by Bloody Disgusting, Chris Carter revealed that he already has a new story in mind for Mulder and Scully, while not wanting to interfere with the reboot produced by Ryan Coogler.

The series creator also revisited the new cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, now available for streaming under the title Vrach Frankenshteyn. Carter restored the darker tone he envisioned with Frank Spotnitz before the studio imposed heavy cuts to achieve a PG-13 rating.

Another Story for Mulder and Scully

The new title also aims to make the Frankenstein component of the story more evident, which originated from an idea inspired by a real monkey head transplant experiment. Carter, however, doesn't hide that he still has something to add to the two agents' story. The arrival of the reboot doesn't seem to be an obstacle: the director chose not to even read Coogler's script, preferring to discover the new project along with the audience.

As for the cinematic future, then, another case for Mulder and Scully already exists. It remains to be seen if someone will decide to bring it to the screen.
