Weapons Goes Back – Prequel About Gladys in the Works
Important writer on board to tell the story of the sinister character
The world of Weapons doesn't stop with the success of the first film. An official prequel is in development, shifting attention to one of the story's most disturbing figures: the terrifying Aunt Gladys.
Currently referred to by the working title Gladys, it will recount the events preceding the original work, attempting to give shape and context to a character who was striking precisely because of what remained implicit. A choice that aims to expand the narrative without replicating it.
Gladys, when no one was watching her yet
Behind the scenes, Zach Cregger returns, this time as co-screenwriter. His presence ensures continuity with the tone and identity that distinguished the film, maintaining a direct link with what worked from the beginning. Alongside him will be Zach Shields, already involved in productions with high mythological content like the Monsterverse.
Everything, of course, revolves around the character portrayed by the talented Amy Madigan, whose performance contributed decisively to the film's impact. Her incredible character, ambiguous and rooted in an impenetrable personal logic, offers fertile ground for narrative exploration.
The commercial success of Weapons, nearing 270 million dollars globally, made an expansion inevitable. However, this prequel seems to want to build something more structured, not just a simple continuation. Meanwhile, Cregger is also involved in the cinematic relaunch of Resident Evil, a sign of a particularly intense period for the director.
