Vampire cinema returns to get its hands – and heels – dirty with Vampires of the Velvet Lounge, a new horror film that bets everything on visual excess, dark humor, and an aesthetic blending decadent glamour and grindhouse. The first trailer reveals an over-the-top experience, set in a speakeasy in the southern United States where a coven of vampires maintains eternal youth with decidedly unorthodox methods.

Leading the cast is Mena Suvari, here as a reimagined Elizabeth Báthory: from the 16th-century legend to a modern predator immersed in green lights, absinthe, and sequins. Alongside her are names familiar to genre fans such as Stephen Dorff, already linked to the world of vampires (Blade), along with Dichen Lachman, India Eisley, Rosa Salazar, Tom Berenger, and Tyrese Gibson.

A Film Deserving a Theatrical Release

The film is written and directed by Adam Sherman, who doesn't seem to be aiming for historical realism but a brazen reinterpretation of the myth. The tone alternates between explicit violence and black humor, with sequences that mix bloody choreography and kitsch sensuality. The "R" classification - Restricted in the USA confirms the intention not to sugarcoat anything: here gore is as much a protagonist as style.

Distributed by Strand Releasing, the film will have a partial US release starting March 29. It won't be a mainstream release, but it has all the makings of becoming a cult title among lovers of bolder and more spectacular horror, risking being viewable only on platforms here.
