The promotional machine for Tron: Ares has officially started, and Disney aims to transform the third adventure in the Grid into a global event. In an interview, director Joachim Rønning launched a direct criticism of the previous installments: Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010).

"For me, action isn't enough – he declared – I need to connect with the characters, with the heart of the story. The first two films offered great spectacle but had little heart. With Tron: Ares, I want to change this". He might be right about the sequel, but as for the first film, the memory is one of great emotions.

According to Rønning, the past was not very emotional

His is certainly an ambitious goal, which is also reflected in the casting choices. The protagonist will be Jared Leto, who plays Ares, and has always declared himself an enthusiastic fan of the saga and ready to convey deep emotions in addition to the usual visual spectacle. On the musical front, after the unforgettable soundtrack by Daft Punk in Legacy, it's up to Nine Inch Nails to create a dark and electronic sound, perfect to accompany the new film's darker and more emotional tone.

The plot will also introduce a highly topical element: for the first time, digital programs will enter the real world, a clear reference to the contemporary debate on artificial intelligence. Apparently, Tron: Ares aims to conquer not only with neon lights but with an even more pulsating heart. The Italian release is scheduled for October 9, 2025.
