The Return of Italian Job with a Surprising Director

Paramount Pictures is considering a new film connected to The Italian Job from 2003, but this time the name set to direct could completely change expectations.
According to Deadline, Paul Feig is in talks with the Studio to direct the project. The director's background is primarily in comedies, including the heavily criticized Ghostbusters from 2016, but in recent years he has shown he can also handle thrillers with A Simple Favor 1&2 and The Housemaid. This experience may have convinced Paramount to involve him.
It would be a decidedly unconventional choice
The remake of the 1969 original with Michael Caine was directed by F. Gary Gray and starred Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Donald Sutherland, and Edward Norton. It has not yet been determined whether the new project will continue that story or use the title to tell something completely different.
There are also no confirmations regarding the cast. The available information does not indicate negotiations with the original performers, so at the moment, sensational returns remain far from defined. The project is still in a preliminary phase, and the screenwriter or release date are not yet known. Feig's choice, if confirmed, will however be the first real clue about the direction Paramount is taking, hoping that the new film does not become a sort of bad copy of Fast&Furious.
