Together - Toxic Love in 4K Body Horror

Together fits into that current that uses genre to talk about something else, transforming horror into a distorting lens on relationships. At its center is not a monster but a couple trying to save themselves by moving away from everything, to an isolated house in the woods. The idea is to start over, but the result is the opposite.

The film immediately makes its nature clear: it doesn't promise traditional thrills, but constant unease. When the two protagonists come into contact with a mysterious substance that physically binds them irreversibly, the metaphor becomes brutal. The impossibility of separation translates into flesh calling flesh, forced attraction, dependence made material. Consumed love transforms into an organic prison.

Gore and strong visual suggestions

The strength of the story lies above all in its performers, Dave Franco and Alison Brie, capable of giving authenticity to every clash, every poisonous silence. Their chemistry makes the spiral of frustration and resentment credible, while the direction insists on disconcerting images and moments of pure body horror, between gore and visual suggestions that are hard to ignore.

It's not a film for those just looking for strong emotions, but an uncomfortable, at times ironic, experience that reflects on the limits of love and the fear of loneliness. Original image format 1.85:1 (3840 x 2160/24 fps), HEVC encoding on a BD-66 dual layer disc. The technical specifications indicate a native 4K master, from which an excellent visual result was achieved, despite "only" HDR-10. We are in the presence of an excellent overall result, for blacks and precise elements even in the background. There's plenty to enjoy, especially with large screens with native 10-bit management.

DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Italian and English (16 bit) which, despite the resolution limitations, knows how to entertain and deliver more than one emotion, though far from reference-level, if listening occurs through true separate channels, immersed in one's Home Theater system. Even just the moment of the thunderstorm that brings the couple into contact with the mysterious substance knows how to create a good atmosphere, while the contact between the creatures becomes increasingly violent and brutally physical.
