The Simpsons Return to Cinemas After 20 Years
Second film announced for Homer's family
It was 2007 when the then 20th Century Fox distributed The Simpsons Movie – in Italian, of course, I Simpson - il Film – produced by Gracie Films and directed by David Silverman, in theaters worldwide. It was certainly one of the highest moments of glory for the characters of the animated TV series created by Matt Groening, who collaborated personally on the plot.
Today, 18 years after that release, 20th Century Studios – owned by Disney – has released a teaser image announcing the return of Homer and his family to theaters: Daddy is coming back for an encore!
The project seems well underway, so much so that the announcement even specifies the release date: July 23, 2027 – exactly 20 years after the launch of the first film.
20 years is a long time for an irreverent brand like The Simpsons, which has nevertheless managed to stay more or less relevant even in the transition from television broadcasting to streaming platforms. Obviously, there's a lot of curiosity about this new film, but we have to wait almost two years... DOH!
