After alternating between spy movies and blockbusters, Gal Gadot returns as the protagonist of a thriller that sets aside spectacular effects and superheroes to focus on a story of continuous tension. Prime Video has released the first trailer for The Runner, a film arriving on the platform on September 2.
In the film, she is Maia Marten, a lawyer whose existence is turned upside down by the kidnapping of her son. To see him alive again, she must follow a series of instructions given by a mysterious interlocutor, moving through London as time quickly runs out. The images suggest that behind the blackmail lies a much more articulated plan, destined to involve characters and interests that go beyond the protagonist's personal drama.
London becomes a trap
The direction is entrusted to Kevin Macdonald, Oscar winner for One Day in September and director of films such as The Last King of Scotland and The Mauritanian. The cast also includes Damian Lewis, Alfred Enoch, Kenton Lloyd Morgan, and Rory Wilmot.
More than spectacular action, The Runner seems to build its identity on rhythm and suspense, with a protagonist forced to make increasingly extreme decisions. The trailer suggests an essential and tight thriller, in which psychological pressure counts as much as chases, bringing back to the center a formula that has been seen less often on the big screen in recent years.
