Nintendo and Sony Pictures have released the first official image from the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, finally confirming the appearance of the two protagonists: Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The shot comes at a tumultuous time: unauthorized footage from the set in New Zealand had been circulating online in recent days, prompting the studios to intervene with official content.

The hypothesis links the film to the 2017 chapter

The photography reveals an aesthetic strongly inspired by Breath of the Wild, with Zelda's blue jacket and Link's adventurer attire immediately recalling the 2017 chapter. The visual atmosphere – colors, natural light, and a setting that seems to have emerged from the plains of Hyrule – suggests an artistic direction faithful to the modern reinvention of the saga.

The film marks a historic milestone for the series, after years of speculation and failed projects. The global success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 accelerated Hollywood's interest in major video game properties, paving the way for a live-action production that few would have imagined possible until a few years ago.

Wes Ball is directing, fresh from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, while the confirmed cast also includes Dichen Lachman as Impa. The big question mark remains over the face of Ganondorf, a central figure in the Zelda universe.
