If we were to ask you what the main annual event for video games in the field of communication is, many of you would probably answer The Game Awards, and it would be hard to disagree. Among the hundreds of awards given by the specialized press, those from The Game Awards are considered the most prestigious. Furthermore, a good portion of the major announcements are made at The Game Awards: many industry giants choose this prestigious stage to unveil their work to the world.

The Game Awards Numbers

The Game Awards is so important also because it garners ever-increasing interest from users. Consider, as reported by Variety, the first edition in 2014 registered just 1.9 million livestreams; it is estimated that the latest one, held a week ago, reached the hyperbolic figure of 171 million livestreams! The count includes views collected on various platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook, Instagram, etc... but it is not an exhaustive count, as it lacks, for example, data related to Amazon Prime Video.

The number of livestreams is up 11% compared to the previous record in 2024, when the total stopped at "only" 154 million. Moreover, these numbers refer to those who followed the event live, so they do not take into account all the enthusiasts who, for one reason or another, could not watch the show live but caught up at a later time.
