The Black Tapes, Coster-Waldau Between Mysteries and the Occult
A secret network tied to the occult leading to an apocalyptic-scale threat
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will star in The Black Tapes, a supernatural horror series ordered by MGM+ for an eight-episode first season. Filming will begin in Vancouver in January 2027, with a debut date yet to be announced.
Known for his role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, the Danish actor will play Richard Strand, a psychiatrist dealing with recordings of seemingly inexplicable events. His investigations will lead him to a secret occult network, linked to an apocalyptic threat.
From Podcast to Television
The series is based on the podcast of the same name created by Terry Miles and Paul Bae, published from 2015 to 2017 for a total of 30 episodes. The work has surpassed 60 million downloads, building a solid community of fans thanks to its investigative narrative. Both authors will be involved in the adaptation as screenwriters and executive producers. Alongside Strand will be Alex Regan, a scientist determined to verify evidence before accepting any paranormal hypothesis. MGM+ has not yet announced who will play the character.
The project is part of the platform's lineup, which already includes From and The Institute, based on Stephen King's novel. For Coster-Waldau, it will be a new starring role after the second season of The Last Thing He Told Me on Apple TV.
