Steam Machine is the new gaming device from Valve, featuring a sophisticated design that makes it look like a black cube about 16 cm per side, a look that could easily pass for a console, although it is a computer in every respect. Presented in November, this device has been on hold for some time due to a rather unfavorable global economic situation, but we are finally close to its release.

Steam Machine Prices

Steam Machine features 16 GB of DDR5 RAM plus an additional 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, components that are currently as expensive as gold. If you add all the other hardware and the fact that the format is quite compact, it's clear why the price exceeds the fateful €1,000 threshold. Valve sells its device in 2 variants, with either a 512 GB or 2 TB NVME SSD hard drive. Both models can be purchased with or without the Steam Controller included.

  • Steam Machine with 512 GB HD - price: €1,039
  • Steam Machine with 512 GB HD + Steam Controller - price: €1,108
  • Steam Machine with 2 TB HD - price: €1,359
  • Steam Machine with 2 TB HD + Steam Controller - price: €1,428

When Steam Machine Releases and How to Buy

Valve will ship the first batch of devices on June 29, 2026. However, getting one will not be simple: you need to go to Steam and register a reservation by June 25 at 7:00 PM. To determine the priority order, Valve will conduct a lottery draw (they chose not to prioritize those who arrive first, to avoid leaving the field open to bots). After the draw, all those who registered will be placed in a reservation queue.

Each of the four models listed above has its own reservation queue. When it's a specific user's turn, they will receive an email with the option to purchase, which must be completed within 72 hours, or the reservation will be canceled. Once one of the four models is chosen, it cannot be changed to another; however, multiple models can be reserved at once to try and enter multiple queues.

To reserve a Steam Machine, you must have a valid Steam account that has made at least one purchase before April 27, 2026, and only one reservation per household is allowed. Of course, you can also reserve the device after June 25 at 7:00 PM, but doing so will place you further back in the queue.
