Shenmue III Tries Again with the Enhanced Edition

Shenmue is a franchise that was born in the era of Sega Dreamcast with two episodes, little known to the general public but held in enormous regard by a niche of enthusiasts. For a long time, it was believed that the fate of this series was tied to that of the unfortunate console on which it was released and that it would therefore never continue: you can understand that the announcement of Shenmue III in 2015, 14 years after its predecessor, caused great emotion.
Thus came November 19, 2019, the fateful release day of Shenmue III. Despite the never-fading love for the saga, even the most die-hard fan had to admit that the magic was broken: the game proved to be a great disappointment, as you can gather from the bitterness of the words in our review. Shenmue III was released in a rather raw state, but now a new version is coming that could make the experience more palatable.
Shenmue III Enhanced: What's New
ININ Games and YS Net present Shenmue III Enhanced, a refined edition of the 2019 game. The news is presented to us by Yu Suzuki himself, with a trailer. Obviously, there are several technical improvements, including more defined 4K textures, greater detail, reduced loading times, and support for DLSS/FSR technologies. The usability of the work has been increased by perfecting the menu and interface design, but above all by modifying some aspects of the gameplay.
Some of Shenmue 3's most obvious rough edges, such as the extremely short QTE times or the constant need to eat, have been corrected: the experience has therefore been made less tedious, although the gameplay loop was fundamentally open to criticism from the start, so it is unlikely that the improvements made will be enough. All changes are optional: if for some reason you prefer the original formula, you can always adopt it.

Shenmue III Enhanced will be released in 2026. You will find this game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC platforms, both in physical and digital format, and pre-orders are open. Shenmue III Enhanced will be offered in three editions: Standard, Special, and Collector's.
