iPhone Duo, Apple Tries to Change the Foldable

Apple enters the foldable smartphone market with iPhone Duo, a device that, when closed, maintains dimensions closer to those of a traditional phone but, once opened, offers a 7.6" inch screen.

The project heavily emphasizes its structure; the frame is made of titanium, and the hinge uses over 100 precision components. Apple has also worked on the display surface with a particular finish that should reduce reflections and make the crease less noticeable.

iOS has also been adapted to the new format: the interface changes layout when the device switches from the external to the internal screen and allows two applications to be used simultaneously.

Apple Also Rethinks How to Take Photos

On the photographic front, we find a main 48 MP Fusion camera flanked by an ultra-wide-angle lens with the same resolution. The 12 MP Center Stage front camera is integrated into the external screen, while the internal one is hidden under the panel. The A20 Pro chip arrives on board along with the new C2 modem, which the company claims offers speeds up to 50% higher than the C1X and reduced power consumption by up to 15%. The battery is divided between the two halves of the smartphone, but Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life using both screens.

iPhone Duo will be available from $1,999 in the 256 GB configuration, with capacity up to 2 TB. Pre-orders will start on October 16, while its arrival in stores is set for October 23.
