Satya Nadella Illustrates Microsoft's Future
The world's largest publisher on all platforms
Microsoft, as even rocks have noticed, has significantly changed its approach to the world of gaming in recent years: its numerous acquisitions have transformed the Xbox division into a true publishing giant, and since the substantial Activision-Blizzard-King package joined the Redmond family after a long and complex gestation, we have also witnessed a progressive opening to competing platforms.
Where is the house of Windows headed? The Vlog TBPM asked the company's head directly, CEO Satya Nadella, who was far from reluctant to make statements in a long video.
"We want to be a fantastic publisher, with an approach similar to what we did with Office - declares Nadella - We intend to be everywhere, on all platforms. We want you to be sure that, regardless of whether it's console, PC, mobile, cloud gaming, or TV, our games can be enjoyed by gamers everywhere."
"As a second point, we also want to innovate the work on the console and PC system side. And it's a bit funny that people think of consoles and PCs as two different things. We built consoles because we wanted to build a better PC that performed well for games. So I want to revisit that conventional wisdom in a sense. But ultimately, consoles have an experience that is unparalleled. They provide unmatched performance that I think pushes the system forward."
"So I'm really looking forward to the next console and the future of PC Gaming, but the most important thing is that the game business model must be where we invent new interactive media. Because, after all, competition in gaming is not other gaming. Competition in gaming is in short-form videos. So if we in the industry don't continue to innovate how we produce them and what we produce, as well as distribution and the economic model, the best way to innovate is to have good margins. Because that's how you can get funding."
Microsoft recently announced the Remake of the first Halo under the label Halo: Campaign Evolved: the game will arrive in 2026 to mark the 25th anniversary of the original game and will debut on PS5 in addition to PC and Xbox.
