Sabrina Carpenter is preparing to descend into the Rabbit Hole. Fresh off the global success of her song Espresso, the American pop star will star in and produce a new musical inspired by Alice in Wonderland, marking a significant collaboration with Universal Pictures.

Still without an official title, the project will see her joined by producer Marc Platt, already behind the musicals Wicked and La La Land, and director and screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, known for the film Hustlers starring Jennifer Lopez. Scafaria will also handle the script, promising a contemporary and visionary adaptation of Lewis Carroll's literary masterpiece.

An Unprecedented Reinterpretation of Carroll's Novel

Published in 1865, Carroll's novel has inspired dozens of adaptations, from the 1951 Disney animation to Tim Burton's gothic reimagining. However, the new film will represent the first live-action version conceived from the outset as a musical, an approach that could combine the surreal fantasy of Alice's world with Carpenter's pop and theatrical energy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the artist proposed the idea to Universal about a year ago, presenting a lookbook and a precise vision for the project. From there, the concept transformed into a full production, with the entry of Alloy Entertainment – the company behind Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. For Sabrina Carpenter, this is an ambitious step: from a promising music artist to the protagonist of a classic reinvented on an entirely new stage.
