Physint: Sony Backs Out, Xbox is the New Publisher

A sensational turn of events for Hideo Kojima's upcoming espionage game

PlayStation opened 2024 with a State of Play at the climax of which Kojima Productions announced Physint. For Sony, it was a triumph: according to the few pieces of information received so far, the game in question could become the spiritual successor to the legendary Metal Gear Solid, making it a true killer application. After the two Death Strandings, the collaboration between PlayStation and Kojima seemed more solid than ever, but something broke.


PlayStation Wanted to Cancel Physint

Last June, to everyone's surprise, PlayStation informed Kojima Productions of its decision to cancel Physint. This move surprised Kojima himself, as explained by the man himself in a message via Twitter/X, and it's indeed hard to understand why they would give up on a title of this caliber. The fact remains that the studio led by the brilliant Japanese game designer spent the subsequent three months searching for a new publisher.


Xbox Becomes Physint's Publisher

Xbox is going through a very delicate period and has made cut after cut in recent months, but for a title like Physint, it rightly decided to make an exception. Xbox Wire announces the new partnership with Kojima Productions for the publication of the game. Now, however, there's a big question awaiting an answer: will Physint be an Xbox console exclusive?
