Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Cuts an Annoying Game Feature
Capcom eliminates a controversial microtransaction
Among the most successful video game companies of the last 10 years, Capcom certainly deserves a mention. In a historically negative period for the industry, the Japanese company has been an exception, churning out one success after another. However, its relationship with players has not always been idyllic: some productions have been harshly criticized for monetization methods seen as predatory, most notably Dragon's Dogma 2.
Paying to change a character's appearance
It's no coincidence that Capcom decided to remove almost all microtransactions from Dragon's Dogma 2. Another title particularly affected by this issue is Monster Hunter Wilds, which currently has something like 200 DLCs on Steam, some of which are decidedly questionable. In particular, to change your character's appearance, you need to purchase the specific Character Edit Voucher (and a Voucher is also needed to change your companion's appearance).
You can imagine the widespread opinion among players about the necessity of paying for aesthetic character modifications... Fortunately, however, Capcom has reconsidered: a message on the official website announces that, with the release of Ascendance (the major expansion arriving in 2027, which you can see here), appearance changes will become free, as they should be.
The Vouchers will remain on sale until December 3rd: on that date, 10 free Vouchers for character modification and 10 for companion modification will be distributed, which players can use while awaiting the transition to the new system. Those who previously purchased Vouchers will receive the "Special Thanks" charm set as a gift, consisting of the two aesthetic items Charm: Celestial Pig and Charm: Imp Pig.
