Marvel - Ryan Gosling to be Ghost Rider in the MCU
The Canadian actor had repeatedly hinted at contacts with Marvel
Marvel Studios has resolved one of the long-standing doubts surrounding its cinematic future. During the San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was announced that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in a dedicated film, set for release in 2028. Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine, will direct.
The Canadian actor had repeatedly hinted at the existence of contacts with Marvel, without ever confirming involvement in a specific project. The official announcement came on the Hall H stage, where Gosling made his appearance before the audience.
Ghost Rider's MCU Debut is Official
The feature film will mark Ghost Rider's debut in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. However, it remains unclear which incarnation of Ghost Rider will be the protagonist of the story. In the comics, the character has been portrayed by figures such as Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, and Robbie Reyes, but Marvel has not yet revealed which version Ryan Gosling will bring to the screen.
The character has previously appeared on screen with Nicolas Cage, who starred in the two films dedicated to Johnny Blaze, and subsequently in the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where Robbie Reyes was played by Gabriel Luna.
Considering the film's release window, set after the upcoming Avengers installments, the possibility remains open that Ghost Rider could be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an early appearance before his starring debut.
