Karl Urban - After Mortal Kombat, He Dreams of Another Video Game
In an interview, the actor unhesitatingly named a cult action-adventure game
In the midst of promoting Mortal Kombat II, Karl Urban offers an interesting glimpse into his future: not just martial arts and spectacle, but also twilight westerns with strong narrative weight.
During a recent interview, the actor unhesitatingly cited Red Dead Redemption as one of the few titles capable of truly engaging him. Despite a sporadic relationship with gaming, Urban identified a specific role: John Marston.
This choice is far from random. Marston is a former outlaw seeking redemption, trapped between his past and his family: an emotional arc that aligns well with the physicality and intensity already demonstrated by the actor in various roles, not least his presence in the first live-action version of Doom.
Professional rather than personal connection to gaming
Currently, there is no concrete project related to a film adaptation of the game. The idea remains in the realm of suggestion, although Hollywood's growing interest in video game adaptations could change things.
Meanwhile, Urban remains busy on multiple fronts. In addition to his debut as Johnny Cage, he continues to be one of the main faces of The Boys, which has reached its concluding phase. Evidently, the actor is building a path increasingly linked to narrative universes already beloved by the public. And if one day Red Dead Redemption were to truly come to cinema, his name would already be on the table.
