The expansion of the new DC Universe could also venture into territories far from classic superhero tales. Among the projects connected to Superman, the series dedicated to Jimmy Olsen, a character played by Skyler Gisondo in the recent Man of Steel film, continues to generate buzz.

According to a new rumor, the definitive title of the show could be American Villain. This indication comes from a registration that appeared in the Writers Guild of America database, although at the moment DC Studios has not officially confirmed the information.

Rumors circulating in recent months describe a very unique production. At the center of the story would not be Superman or Lois Lane, but rather a group of Daily Planet journalists investigating crimes and mysteries related to the supervillains of the DC universe.

An Investigation into the Dark Side of the DC Universe

The potential title American Villain seems to perfectly reflect this approach, closer to an investigative series than a traditional superhero story. Leading the cast should be none other than Jimmy Olsen, promoted for the first time to absolute protagonist after years spent as a supporting character in Clark Kent's adventures.

Rumors also indicate Gorilla Grodd as the main antagonist of the first season. The famous telepathic gorilla, historically associated with Flash, would represent one of the first major villains of the new DC Universe to obtain a central role in a live-action production.

It remains to be seen how much space will be reserved for potential appearances by Superman and the other protagonists of the franchise. Considering the approach adopted by DC Studios in recent projects, cameos and connections with the rest of the shared universe do not seem at all out of the question.
