M. Night Shyamalan returns to supernatural thrillers with Remain, a project the director has already described as the best-received film in test screenings of his entire career. A bold claim, considering titles like The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable.

At the center of the story is an architect marked by depression who moves to Cape Cod, where he meets a mysterious woman destined to change his life. He will be played by Jake Gyllenhaal, alongside Phoebe Dynevor.

Between feelings and unsettling presences

The unique aspect of Remain is the collaboration between Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks, an author famous for romantic novels like The Notebook. The two have built the same story in parallel: a novel published in 2025 and a film adaptation that will hit theaters in February 2027.

According to Shyamalan, the heart of the project is not simply the supernatural, but emotional fear: loss, distance, and relationships that are impossible to truly grasp. An approach that could transform Remain into something very engaging and intriguing, in the typical style of the great director.
