Mixtape is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant surprises of 2026 in gaming: a narrative adventure that offers a unique, deeply evocative experience with an excellent audiovisual component. In our review, we highlight how the sound, in particular, reaches a special level, thanks also to tracks by legendary artists such as The Cure, Devo, Roxy Music, Lush, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

Mixtape Has Perpetual Music Rights

Partly due to these big names, and partly because games have disappeared from stores in the past due to licensing issues, a fear has been circulating online in recent days: that Mixtape would only be available for the duration of its music licenses, and once they expired, the game would be removed from stores. This fear is absolutely unfounded.

The denial comes from publisher Annapurna Interactive, with a message via Twitter/X. Delving a bit deeper into the matter (via Kotaku), it emerged that developer Beethoven and Dinosaur paid "a little extra" to secure perpetual rights to the songs in Mixtape. No figures were provided, but it was specified that the studio managed to secure almost all of the musical repertoire it aspired to, with the exception of one Pink Floyd song.
