The live-action film Mobile Suit Gundam continues to take shape, and each new update reinforces the idea of a project conceived as a major cinematic event. After the confirmation of Sydney Sweeney as the protagonist, the production is now in talks with Gabriel Basso, a face well-known to the general public thanks to the Netflix series The Night Agent. An addition that would further raise the profile of the cast.

The adaptation aims to relaunch the iconic Japanese saga with a more realistic and dramatic approach, far from the simple spectacle of mechs. Alongside Sweeney and Noah Centineo, Basso would represent a perfect piece to tell a space war made not only of battles, but also of moral choices and inner conflicts.

A highly anticipated "live" Gundam

Behind the project are Legendary Entertainment and Bandai Namco, a guarantee of global ambitions, while the direction is entrusted to Jim Mickle, already appreciated for Sweet Tooth. The film is expected to be particularly inspired by The 08th MS Team, among the darker and more human incarnations of the Gundam universe, with a strong focus on war drama.

Filming is scheduled to take place in Australia in the coming months. If the casting is confirmed, Gundam is set to be one of the most anticipated science fiction titles, capable of speaking to both historical fans and a new audience.
