Googlebook - Android Laptops Arrive with Premium Prices

Google is once again focusing on laptops with a new family of devices called Googlebook. Following the announcement in May, here are the 5 models from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus, featuring high-end specifications and prices starting from $899.
Android Tries to Conquer the Laptop Market
The goal is to bring Android to computers designed for more comprehensive use than what Chromebooks have offered so far. The new laptops integrate OLED or IPS touch screens, metal chassis, and either Snapdragon X Elite or Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The base configuration starts with 16 GB of RAM, while Google promises up to 14 hours of video playback.
The main novelty concerns the software: Android applications will be able to run natively, alongside a desktop version of Chrome. Features like Cast My Apps and Continue On also aim to connect the computer to the smartphone, allowing users to access apps installed on the phone and resume certain activities on the laptop. Gemini will be integrated into the system through Magic Pointer, while developer tools will include Antigravity and a terminal environment.
The range includes Acer Googlebook 14 (cover image) at $899, Dell XPS Googlebook at $999, and three offerings at $1,299: HP Googlebook 14, Lenovo Googlebook 15, and Asus Googlebook 14. Pre-orders begin in the United States with in-store availability from October 4. The launch in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia is scheduled for October 5. Italy is currently watching from the sidelines.
Each model includes one year of Google AI Pro and GeForce Now. It remains to be seen how well Android applications will adapt to desktop use, a decisive aspect for a platform that aims to compete with Windows and macOS.
