Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, retires
The flop The Callisto Protocol will remain his last work
Glen Schofield is an American game designer known primarily for creating a survival horror of the caliber of Dead Space, but his career in the video game industry began much earlier, in the early 90s as an art director. His last work, dating back to 2022, was The Callisto Protocol, a title that aimed to recreate what made Dead Space special, but without succeeding. After the failure of The Callisto Protocol, Schofield left Striking Distance Studios, which he himself had founded, to pursue new opportunities.
The American game designer intended to return to the franchise that made him famous and therefore contacted Electronic Arts to ask if he could make Dead Space 4, but he was met with a flat refusal. We didn't know what Schofield's next move would be, at least until today: with a heartfelt video on LinkedIn, the father of Dead Space announced his retirement from the video game industry, thanking fans, colleagues, and everyone who supported him on his journey.
