GeForce NOW Debuts on Linux - Official Desktop App Arrives
New client designed for traditional PCs and notebooks, excluding handheld consoles
NVIDIA takes an important step towards the universality of cloud gaming by announcing the release of the beta version of the native NVIDIA GeForce NOW desktop app for Linux. For the first time, Linux users can access the service without using a browser, with an experience much closer to what is already available on Windows and macOS.
The new client is compatible with Ubuntu 24.04 and later versions and is designed for traditional PCs and notebooks, not for handheld consoles like Steam Deck. Thanks to entirely cloud-based processing, even modest systems can leverage high-end performance, up to 5K at 120 fps or 1080p at 360 fps, depending on the subscription and connection quality. The most advanced RTX technologies are also supported, such as ray tracing and DLSS 4, with power comparable to RTX 5080 class GPUs.
10 New Entries in the Game Catalog
The launch of the Linux beta coincides with a substantial catalog update: 10 new games enter the GeForce NOW library this week, including The Bard’s Tale Trilogy, The Bard’s Tale IV: Director’s Cut, Prototype, Prototype 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, some already optimized for the new RTX cloud instances.
Finally, NVIDIA has confirmed that Delta Force by Team Jade will be playable on GeForce NOW starting February 3rd, with no local downloads. Prices and plans remain unchanged, while availability and performance depend on the region.
