A special collaboration was on the horizon for Vampire Survivors: one with Fortnite, the video game phenomenon that hasn't been having a very happy period lately. Within Epic Games' title, characters like Antonio Belpaese, Poe Ratcho, Dommario, etc., could have arrived... However, the crossover was suspended just hours after the announcement at the behest of Poncle, the creator of Vampire Survivors.

Is Epic Games Using Too Much AI?

Poncle shared a message on Reddit to announce that the collaboration with Fortnite is under review, due to news about Epic Games' use of generative AI in creating assets, including Fortnite's own characters. Probably, the news Poncle refers to concerns this video, which shows the creative process followed by Epic Games artists.

The video doesn't hide that artists use artificial intelligence during various phases of the process, which naturally attracted criticism from the web but apparently didn't sit well with Poncle either. Evidently, the prospect of seeing Vampire Survivors' iconic characters redesigned by AI does not appeal to someone who has made strictly human-drawn pixel art their distinctive feature. Poncle will update us in the future with any news on the crossover.
