Ebenezer: Trailer with Johnny Depp Revives Dickens
The original story structure will be maintained but with a more ghost movie-like approach
In Hollywood, there seems to be an unwritten rule: if a story has already had dozens of adaptations, another one is probably needed. It's once again the turn of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which returns to the big screen with Ebenezer, a new interpretation by Ti West, director of the horror trilogy consisting of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine.
The first trailer features Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge and focuses on a darker atmosphere, with a strong supernatural component. The film will arrive in Italian cinemas on November 12, 2026, distributed by Paramount, accompanied by the slogan: "The name you know. The story you don't know."
A Classic Returns, Again
According to the official synopsis, the story will follow Scrooge's otherworldly journey through past, present, and future, maintaining the structure of Dickens's tale but with a more ghost movie-like approach. The cast also includes Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Tramell Tillman, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti, and Ellie Bamber.
However, an inevitable question remains: how much more can a work brought to the screen countless times still offer? From Scrooge in 1951 to versions with Albert Finney and George C. Scott, passing through Scrooged, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and Robert Zemeckis's 2009 retelling, Dickens's story has been adapted ad nauseam. However, Ti West has shown he can reinterpret genres with personality: this will be the very quality that must convince the public that Ebenezer is not just another visit to Dickens's Christmas.
