Dune: Awakening Prioritizes PvE and Embraces Private Servers
Important news for the Survival MMO set on Arrakis
Dune: Awakening takes one of the most fascinating universes in science fiction, conceived by writer Frank Herbert, and makes it the setting for a survival MMO video game. It's an experience that isn't for everyone, but despite some imperfections, it proves to be solid and coherent, as we explain in our review. Dune: Awakening is a work in continuous update: this year it evolved with Chapter 3, but further news is on the way.
Dune: Awakening's PvP Becomes Optional
Developer Funcom has announced two fundamental new features for Dune: Awakening, destined to significantly change how the game is played. Funcom's goal has always been to prioritize PvE over PvP, but currently, that's not the case. For this reason, clashes with other users will be made optional: PvP areas in the Hagga Basin zone will be deactivated. Furthermore, when venturing into the desert, players will be able to choose whether to be in an exclusively PvE environment or one that also includes PvP.
Dune: Awakening on Private Servers
The second major new feature is the introduction of private servers: players who wish can run Dune: Awakening on their own servers, with customized rule sets. It will be possible to import one's character from the official server to the private one (but not vice versa), and the limit on the number of hosted users is the same as the official server (provided one has hardware powerful enough to reach it). This new functionality is now in the testing phase, and Funcom will not charge extra to use it.
