Dreams of a Dead God - Cosmic Horror with a Found Footage Twist
On the trail of a kidnapper and murderer with disturbing ties to an ancient cult
Set in the universe of H.P. Lovecraft, Dreams of a Dead God is a 36-minute horror short film that reinterprets the myth of Cthulhu through an unusual narrative choice: found footage. The story is set in 1936 Louisiana, shortly after the events of The Call of Cthulhu, and challenges not only the sanity of the characters but the very nature of reality.
The film follows a young woman and her adopted brother on the trail of a kidnapper and murderer, pursued from France to the swamps north of New Orleans. Joined by local police, the two venture into hostile territory where they discover disturbing ties to an ancient cult.
New foray into the Lovecraftian universe
The operation concludes with the capture of the fugitive but at a very high price, forcing the survivors into a desperate escape. The only remaining testimony of the events is the recording of the killer's interrogation, a central element of the film, in which disturbing truths and visions emerge that challenge all rational certainty.
Written and directed by Jim Weter, who cites historical authors such as Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert Bloch among his inspirations, the film aims to be a personal contribution to the myth of cosmic horror. The cast includes Cameron Crawford, Chris Steinmetz, Larshay Watson, Ryan Gilliam, and Jerry Kimble. Dreams of a Dead God will make its world premiere on January 24 at the Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival in Lafayette, Louisiana. A grand title we'd love to see among the mainstays of the sixth edition of Drag Me to Fest!
