The first trailer for Digger radically changes the public's image of Tom Cruise. The actor temporarily sets aside the action cinema that has dominated his recent career to take on a role built on physical and interpretive transformation, under the direction of Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

In the film, he is Digger Rockwell, an oil industry magnate convinced he can control every aspect of his empire. His decisions end up triggering a devastating environmental crisis destined to have global consequences, forcing him to confront the responsibilities of his actions.

A Character Far from the Action Hero

The first glimpse highlights Iñárritu's approach, which constructs an unpredictable narrative without explaining every detail of the plot. It's an approach that recalls the Mexican director's more ambitious cinema, already the author of works like Birdman and Revenant. Alongside Cruise, we find a high-profile cast including, among others, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, Emma D'Arcy, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

The initial online reactions focus primarily on Cruise's performance, who appears almost unrecognizable in the trailer. There are already those speculating about a return to the Oscar race, although it will be the public's response, from October 1, 2026, in Italian cinemas, that will determine whether Digger truly manages to live up to the promises of this surprising first trailer.
