Cyberpunk 2077: Sales Climb to 40 Million
Night City is a decidedly crowded metropolis
In December 2020, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 represented one of the most controversial cases in video game history. Preceded by feverish anticipation, the game proved to be far from CD Projekt Red's promises: the Polish company was forced to continue development in the following years to correct its sci-fi work. However, over time, the situation changed, the public's opinion of the game improved, and in September 2023, the Phantom Liberty expansion also arrived.
Cyberpunk 2077 Sales
Controversies aside, there's no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 was a huge success from the start: at launch, it managed to sell some 13 million units in about ten days. After five and a half years, that number has more than tripled: CD Projekt Red has indeed announced that as of today, July 3, Cyberpunk 2077 sales have surpassed the 40 million copies mark.
The count includes both individually purchased copies and those included in the Ultimate Edition bundle (which also features the expansion). For CD Projekt Red, this is their second best-selling video game after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which has accumulated over 65 million copies.
