Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Has Won More GOTY Awards Than Anyone Else
The "French JRPG" becomes the most awarded game ever
That Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would sweep awards was widely anticipated. The quality of the work created by the French studio Sandfall Interactive is such that from its release in April of last year, it was immediately clear that something special was at hand. It was not surprising that at The Game Awards, Expedition 33 collected a record number of nominations (12), a record number of wins (9), and, of course, took home the coveted Game of the Year award.
Expedition 33's GOTY Record
Many followed The Game Awards' example, in fact, very many. According to counts made online (for example on Resetera or Reddit), Sandfall's RPG has been awarded GOTY a whopping 436 times! This number allowed it to surpass Elden Ring (which stands at 435), topping the list of video games that have been proclaimed Game of the Year the most times. Moreover, Expedition 33's figure is still provisional: other events will soon take place that will assign their own GOTY for 2025.
