Cities: Skylines II is changing management and... its look. Colossal Order, the Finnish studio behind the series, ended its long-standing partnership with Paradox Interactive last November. The publisher then entrusted the franchise to Iceflake Studios (also Finnish): the first patch developed by the new team will focus on various visual elements of this city-building game.

The Next Cities: Skylines II Patch

As anticipated by a message on Steam, Iceflake will introduce the ability to assign a custom color to objects in Skylines II. The studio has already implemented this option for buildings and vehicles but intends to extend it further, for example, to plants. The visual changes will not be merely aesthetic but also functional: a significant interface redesign is planned to make navigation simpler. Additionally, a kind of in-game encyclopedia will be added.

Iceflake is working on perfecting lighting, both day and night: in particular, the city will be more visible during dark hours. The fog effect will also improve, with different intensity levels. In general, weather conditions will have a greater impact on the city's appearance, especially in case of snow, with a white blanket settling on surfaces.
