Battlefield 6 is, as is customary for the series, one of the most anticipated games of the upcoming autumn, and the community's Hype has further surged after the Open Beta period held last month, which we covered in our Preview.

While waiting to finally get our hands on the finished product - about which some rumors have slipped online - the colleagues at Kotaku had the opportunity to engage in a brief interview with some developers from the DICE team. During the chat, the discussion turned to Xbox Series S, Microsoft's "small" console, on which the Redmond company requires all games destined for Series X to still be compatible.

Battlefield 6 on Xbox Series S: A Memory Problem

"I have to say the biggest challenge for us was memory - explained Christian Buhl, the game's technical director - Xbox Series S has even less memory than our mid-spec PC. And that was a point... oh, I mean, between 6 and 12 months ago we realized that a lot of levels were crashing on Xbox Series S."

The team addressed the problem by optimizing memory usage in the game, with improvements that not only affected Series S but also contributed to making the product better and more stable overall. "But we also worked on specific optimizations for Xbox Series S. We did a lot of testing, collected a lot of data. Once we understood where the problem was, in a month or two we solved practically all our memory problems on Series S."

Buhl concluded by guaranteeing that Battlefield 6 is now "super solid and performant" on Xbox Series S, as well as "stable at 60 FPS".

Battlefield 6: Nintendo Switch 2 Not Found

The interviewers also tried to ask their guests if the much-rumored version of the game for Nintendo Switch 2 was in the works; however, the interviewees erected an impenetrable wall on the subject: "Sorry, but I have to intervene - declared the Electronic Arts representative present at the chat - We cannot talk about anything other than the consoles Battlefield is coming to, which are Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PS5 Pro."

Impenetrable... but not insurmountable: in fact, when talking about controllers with gyroscopic functionalities, the interviewer noted that the Joy-Cons of Switch 2 have excellent performance, an assertion to which the developers responded "Yes, exactly!" implying that they had performed numerous tests on the peripheral.
Connect the dots...

Battlefield 6 will arrive on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S next October 10th.
