Backrooms - The unsettling trailer between VHS and distorted reality
Directorial debut for Kane Parsons, creator of the eponymous YouTube series
The first trailer for the horror film Backrooms focuses entirely on atmosphere: infinite corridors, cold lights, and a constant feeling of disorientation that directly recalls the project's viral origins. The film marks the directorial debut of Kane Parsons, creator of the YouTube series that transformed the Backrooms into a global phenomenon. And the trailer doesn't betray that identity: videotape aesthetics, found footage, and intelligent use of space to generate tension.
A nightmare born from the everyday
The story begins with a simple detail: a mysterious door appearing in the basement of a showroom. From there, the passage to a world beyond logic, made of repetitive rooms and disturbing silence. The cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, alongside Mark Duplass and Finn Bennett, in a project that combines solid faces with a very precise visual idea.
Produced by A24 together with Atomic Monster, the film seems to aim for a more psychological than spectacular horror, with few elements but exploited to the maximum to create unease. The result is a trailer that doesn't scream, but unsettles and leaves a question: what is truly behind that door?
