After rumors and whispers, it's now official: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag returns in a new Resynced version. Not a simple Remaster, then, but a true Remake that rebuilds the game from the ground up, using the latest version of the Anvil Engine and adding a large quantity of new elements. The same story, the same characters, but elevated and with a greater dose of realism. And not only that: its release is practically around the corner, scheduled for July 9, 2026.

BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND REMAKE

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will arrive almost 13 years after the release of the original game. If you fear that this remake might stray too far from the plot and atmosphere of the first foray into the Caribbean Sea, the words of Matt Ryan - the original voice actor for protagonist Edward Kenway - will reassure you: “We wanted to revive the spirit of the original game, rebuilding it piece by piece with the help of the most recent version of the Anvil Engine, to deliver to fans the most exciting pirate adventure ever.”

We will therefore return to the shoes of the pirate Edward Kenway, a rebel seeking glory and freedom, with the dream of making a name for himself and aspiring to a better life. Among Templars, mysterious places, and enormous hidden treasures, Edward will find himself at the center of a conflict greater than himself, finding unexpected help from infamous pirates such as Calico Jack and Blackbeard, eventually founding a place where men like him can find refuge from the cruelty of Empires. An adventure that will take Edward and his companions to the most remote places in the Caribbean, from the deep seas to the inextricable jungle, from golden beaches to historic cities.

Each location will offer a unique atmosphere, where opportunity and conflict meet. The wonderful Caribbean scenery will finally appear in all its beauty, reproduced through HD textures, dynamic lighting, an unprecedented amount of detail, and completely new variable weather. But the novelties don't end there: even underwater exploration will be expanded and will leave you breathless with wonder. The absence of loading screens when moving from one scenario to another or entering different cities will make the world of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced seem even more alive and realistic. What doesn't change is the path fraught with dangers and unforeseen events to achieve freedom.

The combat system has been totally rewritten to match the action experience that the developers of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced have in mind: swords, knives, and pistols are all part of an arsenal where each element plays a specific role in combat designed to be faster, more fluid, and more satisfying: a perfect parry opens the way for an instant kill, while a risky move could prove to be a mistake you'll pay dearly for.

Great attention has also been paid to the control system, revised and expanded compared to the original. For example, it will now be possible to move crouched, to make stealth phases more realistic and effective. The opportunity was also taken to fix some conceptual problems of the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: you will probably remember that in tailing missions, being discovered led to immediate desynchronization, forcing you to repeat the mission. In Resynced, none of this will happen: if you are discovered, your target will try to escape, and you will have to adapt and react to this new, unexpected situation.

THE PIRATE SHIP

Obviously, you can't have a pirate game without a ship to match. So get ready to hoist the sails and freely navigate the clear and turbulent waters of the Caribbean Sea. However, waves are not the only dangers you will face. Fortunately, in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced you will have greater firepower and flexibility to get by in any situation.

New officers will then be available for recruitment, and each of them brings with them unique characteristics and enhancements. But if it's company you need, you can also host your trusty monkey on the ship's deck.

From what we have been able to gather through the words of the Ubisoft developers working on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the goal of this anticipated remake is to reconnect with the heart of Black Flag, using all the computing power and technology available today to enhance the scenarios and spirit of an adventure fondly remembered by a very large segment of fans of the saga. What we can expect, therefore, are more natural movements and smoother transitions between different actions. Without overdoing it, however: Black Flag is an adventure, not an RPG, and it must remain so.

To ensure due fidelity to the original concept, Ubisoft Singapore invited several of the most active fans in the Black Flag community to their studios to test the game in development and provide the team with the right guidance to stay on course.

In short, it will take some time to process the surprise, but the good intentions seem to be all there, and the screenshots released by Ubisoft make the wait for July 9 quite difficult to manage. To help you get through the remaining weeks unscathed, we leave you in the gallery a nice overview of images where you can also find the PC version requirements and the contents of the Deluxe and Collector's Editions.
