Zootopia 2 – Less Bite, More Action and Rhythm in the 2K Sequel
Native 2K master for a top-tier visual spectacle, dynamic audio, and plenty of extras
Zootopia 2 marks a return to the animal metropolis but via a different path. The film picks up with the now well-established duo of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, but instead of aiming for a surprise effect, it works on their dynamic as a couple, putting it under pressure through a more complex and less linear investigation.
The introduction of a new threat, linked to the world of reptiles, is not just a narrative device but becomes an opportunity to expand the visual and social universe of the city. Nevertheless, the subtext is more subdued compared to the first chapter: the message remains but is integrated less incisively, leaving more room for rhythm and spectacle.
A Changing Balance
Jared Bush and Byron Howard's direction favors a more direct approach, with dynamic sequences and well-calibrated physical comedy. The film flows quickly, without significant lulls, but rarely allows for truly memorable moments.
On a technical level, the leap is evident: more refined animations, denser environments, and intelligent use of visual contrasts between different species. Even Michael Giacchino's soundtrack elegantly accompanies but never overwhelms the narrative. Ultimately, Zootopia 2 entertains, expands the world, and consolidates the characters, but foregoes that spark capable of transforming a good sequel into something truly essential.
Digital production that surprises even though it is native 2K material, with an upscaled 4K version for the US market not available with Italian audio. Original image format 2.39:1 (1920 x 1080/23.97p) AVC/MPEG-4 encoding on a dual-layer BD-50. Despite the SDR limitations (versus Dolby Vision), the technical spectacle is total: solidity, vibrant colors, and excellent black depth. Images that do not fail to impress even on large screens.
Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 Italian (754kbps) with excellent rendering, ready to stimulate enjoyment through true discrete channel listening. Only in this way is it possible to savor the remarkable soundstage presence, both front and rear, between effects and music, with a significant subwoofer contribution. The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 English (24 bit) is reference-quality, increasing the overall aggressiveness for a rendition closer to the cinema experience.
