Almost twenty years after the film that defined his style, Zack Snyder could return to the world of 300. Warner Bros. Television is reportedly developing a prequel series with Netflix, and the director is in talks to direct the pilot episode.

The rumor comes from John Rocha of The Hot Mic and should still be treated with caution: the project has not yet received an official season order. The presence of a writers' room suggests, however, that work on the series has already entered a concrete phase.

The real element of interest, however, is the possible return of Snyder to direct. The project could look at the years preceding the Battle of Thermopylae, focusing on the training of Leonidas and the path that led him to become king of Sparta.

Before Thermopylae

A story set before the events of the film would allow for the exploration of a period only briefly touched upon by Snyder in 2006. The agoge, the harsh training imposed on young Spartans, could become the starting point for telling the formation of the future sovereign.

For Snyder, it would also be a return to the atmospheres that helped make him recognizable in Hollywood. 300, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, arrived in theaters in 2006 and transformed the Battle of Thermopylae into a visual spectacle that immediately became iconic.

The series does not yet have a date or a definitive green light, but Snyder's potential presence directing the pilot could completely change the weight of the project.
