Xbox is undergoing a restructuring process that involves a profound reorganization of its corporate structure, with the aim of streamlining it and reducing its units. This is not a painless transition: this new direction has unfortunately led to thousands of layoffs and put several studios in serious difficulty. While the gaming division of Microsoft has seriously downsized its development capacity, it has also taken an initiative aimed at enhancing its gaming franchises.

Xbox XP: The Game is Much More Than a Game

The Xbox blog announced the creation of XP, a new division whose purpose is to bring the company's franchises to more people. How? By extending them to multimedia areas that go far beyond video games themselves. Specifically, XP will focus on the following four areas:

  • Xbox Pictures - Film, television, and similar forms of storytelling
  • Xbox Products - Authentic products for fans
  • Xbox Places - Live events, immersive experiences, attractions, broadcasts
  • Xbox Partnerships - Experiences, sponsorships, and brand partnerships

Franchises will therefore be brought to people in new ways, but according to Xbox, games will always remain at the center. The first president of XP is Kayleen Walters, who previously worked at Mojang, helping to transform Minecraft into an absolute phenomenon with over 425 million copies sold.
