X Limits Grok - Sexually Explicit Abusive Images Circulated
Over half of the images generated by the system were illegal
X has decided to drastically reduce access to the artificial intelligence system Grok for image generation, after days of strong controversy related to the production of sexually explicit and violent content, including cases involving women and minors.
The problem emerged when numerous users began to exploit Grok to create manipulated images of people dressed — sometimes minors — asking the AI to digitally remove their clothes. According to recent analyses, over half of the images generated by the system fell into this category, raising a wave of public outrage.
AI at the service of the worst in the community
Currently, the Grok account responds to image requests by stating that the function is limited to X Premium paid subscribers, providing a link for registration. A move that seems more like an immediate containment attempt than a structural solution.
Meanwhile, institutional pressure is growing. The United Kingdom and Europe have launched formal investigations into the platform's operations and xAI, the company founded by Elon Musk responsible for Grok. The blocking of the app in some areas is also not ruled out.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the incident “disgusting and intolerable”, declaring full support for the regulator Ofcom and demanding that “all options be on the table”, including legal action and drastic measures against X. The case reignites the debate on platform responsibility and the limits of generative AI, especially when it is put into the hands of millions of users without adequate protections.
