Where Winds Meet is the open-world action/RPG developed by NetEase and Everstone Studio, a free-to-play title that offers players vast fantasy lands to explore and a combat system based on Chinese martial arts. Even before its release, 10 million users had pre-registered for the game; the launch, which took place last Friday on PS5 and PC, confirmed public interest.

Where Winds Meet by the Numbers

The Where Winds Meet team announced that, in the first 24 hours, over 2 million users ventured into this new fantasy world. Furthermore, Where Winds Meet was one of the most played titles on Steam and entered the top 10 of the sales charts for both Steam and PlayStation 5, a rather significant achievement considering it is a free video game, whose microtransactions are purely cosmetic in nature.

Where Winds Meet's Western debut therefore seems very promising. The question we ask ourselves is: will it stand the test of time? We know well that a high initial turnout does not automatically guarantee the success of games conceived as a service: gamers flock en masse at launch to try out the novelty, but then it remains to be seen if they stay. The conditions for Where Winds Meet to last over time seem to be there; we will see how it goes in the coming months.
