Whalefall - The Trailer for the Horror That Swallows You Alive
After his father's death, a young man dives off the coast of California to recover his remains
The suffocating trailer for Whalefall depicts a nightmare difficult to forget: a man swallowed alive by a gigantic sperm whale, forced to fight his way out of its body before his oxygen runs out.
The film, directed by Brian Duffield, known for No One Will Save You, will arrive in Italian cinemas on October 16th. The story centers on Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams, who, after his father's death, dives off the coast of California to recover his remains.
Hard to Watch for the Claustrophobic
The dive takes a terrifying turn when Jay ends up in the stomach of the gigantic cetacean. With a limited supply of oxygen, the protagonist must find a way to return to the surface while his father's death weighs heavily on his choices.
Whalefall is based on the novel of the same name published in 2023 by Daniel Kraus, who collaborated with Duffield on the screenplay. The film thus attempts to transform an already claustrophobic situation on the page into a decidedly unconventional survival story and one that is (im)possible to watch for those suffering from this anxiety disorder. In addition to Abrams, the cast includes Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, Jane Levy, John Ortiz, and Emily Rudd.
