Total War: Shogun 2 - A Complete Edition Overview

Publisher Sega has shared a new trailer for Total War: Shogun 2, offering an overview of the improvements that will be introduced by the Complete Edition. As a game originally from 2011, there will obviously be a big leap forward from a technical standpoint, but this also required significant work from the team responsible for the new version: for example, simply upscaling the textures would not have been enough; it was necessary to redesign them to add detail.

Features of the Complete Edition

In addition to textures, all other visual elements have been improved, from models to lighting; the increased hardware power also allowed for an increase in the number of details on the map, such as the number of trees. A significant change from the original concerns the cutscenes, which have been rewritten from scratch and replaced with traditional Japanese-style animations (but the old cutscenes are still there if you prefer them).

The Complete Edition is being handled by Mataboo, a studio specializing in supporting other developers, which not only revamped the game's look but also revisited aspects like the interface, making it more functional. On the gameplay side, a new aerial view is introduced, allowing players to keep an eye on battles from a wider perspective. The control system has also been revised to simplify army command. 

Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition is set to release in a couple of weeks, on October 13, 2026, on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Xbox PC). The price of the new edition of the game will be €39.99, but those who already own the old one will be able to purchase it for a limited time at a 75% discount.
