If you are among the many eagerly awaiting The Witcher 4, the next chapter in the saga where Ciri will be elevated to the role of protagonist, the bad news is that unfortunately you will have to wait quite a while longer. The good news, however, is that you will then be able to get your hands on not one, but three games, which will be released within a more than reasonable timeframe (for the record, The Witcher 3 came out 10 years ago…).

The information comes to us on the sidelines of CD Projekt Red's financial presentation, the same one where it was announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 35 million copies sold. Michal Nowakowski, joint-CEO of the Polish company, in a Q&A with investors, confirmed that The Witcher 4 is in full production but will not be released in 2026, as had already been stated a few months ago.

Unreal Engine 5 accelerates game development

CD Projekt has been working with Unreal Engine 5 for 4-5 years now: the engine is progressively evolving thanks to the support of Epic Games and allows for the creation of an enormous open world. This technical progress will allow to significantly shorten the time between releases: Nowakowski explains that The Witcher IV will be the first chapter of a new trilogy and that the intention is to release The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 within six years. In other words, if the 4th installment arrives in 2027, we can expect to have the 6th by 2033.
