Harry Bosch will have two different interpreters across novels, audiobooks, and television: Titus Welliver will continue to voice the adult detective, while Cameron Monaghan will play his younger version in the series Bosch: Start of Watch. The two actors will only come together in the audiobook dedicated to The Hollow, a novel by Michael Connelly that has just been released.

The story alternates between different phases of the detective's life. As a teenager, Harry spent a difficult period at the MacLaren Children’s Center, where he formed a friendship with another boy. Years later, Bosch revisits that past to investigate his friend's unsolved murder. The novel's structure in the audiobook allows Welliver to play the adult detective and Monaghan to lend his voice to his younger version. It is not, therefore, a meeting between the two characters, but rather two interpretations of the same Harry Bosch at different points in his life.

Cameron Monaghan Will Be the Young Bosch on TV

The distinction is also important for the character's television future. Bosch: Start of Watch, a series developed by MGM+, will tell the story of Harry's early years in the Los Angeles police force, with only Monaghan starring. Titus Welliver will not appear in the series, which will be independent of previous productions dedicated to the detective.

The idea of exploring Bosch's younger years also emerged during discussions between Michael Connelly and the writers of the new series. Those conversations inspired the decision to explore the protagonist's past in the novel, opening a new perspective on a character the author has been writing about for decades.
