Street Fighter 6: Paid Tournament? People are Grumbling...
Capcom Considers Revising Ticket Prices
Street Fighter 6 is undoubtedly one of the flagship titles in Capcom's current catalog: despite being released over two years ago, straddling the two generations of PlayStation and Xbox, it is still widely played and constantly receives new updates and fighters, the latest of which is C.Viper. The game also debuted four months ago on Nintendo Switch 2.
Naturally, Capcom is particularly adept at leveraging its golden goose, especially considering its high appeal in the tournament and e-Sports scene. For this reason, the news that the next tournament for the fighting game, the Capcom Cup 12, would require a ticket payment even from those who wished to watch the matches remotely via streaming, did not cause particular surprise.
...what instead unleashed a wave of controversy on the Japanese company is the price of these tickets, as it's rumored to be $40 for two days of fights - practically the current market price of the base game.
Street Fighter 6: Capcom Revises Plans
Following this backlash, Capcom probably realized it had exaggerated a tad and, through a statement on the game's X profile, announced that it is reviewing its plans:
"Regarding the decision to charge for live viewing of both tournaments, announced at Tokyo Game Show on September 28, we have received a lot of feedback from fans and have read the details. We are considering changing the price for live viewing. We plan to make an announcement regarding the price of live viewing tickets, as well as the context and intentions behind that announcement, towards the end of October."
That's it, for now...
