Steam Machine will be priced like a PC, not a console

Last week, Valve introduced its new line of gaming hardware to the world, consisting of the new Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame devices. The first of the three is an elegant black cube that serves as a fixed gaming station (although it can be used as a real PC): a way to make Steam more accessible for home use and, why not, to provide a sort of alternative to consoles.


The price, or the missing "detail"

We explain all the details of Valve's new gaming ecosystem in this special. The presentation omitted a fundamental detail: the prices of the devices were not specified. We can speculate on the reason for this choice, but the fact that consumers were not given this information, just a few months before the launch (which will happen around early 2026), does not bode well.


Will Steam Machine not be cheap?

Those who hoped to take home a Steam Machine at a "contained" price will unfortunately have to reconsider. As Eurogamer reports, a Valve spokesperson addressing the matter replied that the device will be priced "like a PC", rather than "like a console". The spokesperson did not elaborate further, but it's probably not necessary: according to their words, it seems quite clear that Steam Machine will cost much more than what you'd spend to take home a PS5 or Switch 2...
